“Hi there! Are you a blogger?” these were the first words I heard from Susie Butler as I opened the Tasting Room door and entered the world of wine making. Susie led me into a huge room filled wall to wall with steel and wooden barrels. As I walk further into warehouse-like space I see tables set up with a plethora of sausages, gourmet cheeses, decadent chocolates, and fresh fruit. Another table was filled with empty wine glasses and a bucket of ice with all of the wines that we would taste that day. Also in this room stood the three winemakers that would be giving us our V.I.P tour, Jim Butler of Butler Winery, Paul Mui of Oliver Winery, and Tony Leaderbrand of Owen Valley Winery. After a brief history of the families’ winery and vineyard we soon tasted a freshly bottled wine and headed out to explore the vineyards. Strolling through the vineyards, we take multiple stops to talk about the type of grape on the vine, as we sip the wine produced from that same grape. Helping me grow appreciation for the wine I was consuming, I would sip and my mind would wander to future times that I could enjoy this wine. After walking in the beautiful sun and after having many samples we headed inside for more food and, of course, wine. Sitting in the official Tasting Room, we ate delicious food and drank wine that paired perfectly. All together, I learned the craft of winemaking and the absolute hard word and dedication it takes to be in this business. The passion of these winemakers will never go unseen by me. If any of you have a chance go on a vineyard tour. Go taste wine, there are many out there to try. If you want a exceptional experience and an exceptional taste that goes along with it, taste from wineries and vineyards in your local community. The difference is like no other. Denim:
